Ali Lohan adds another 10 years to her look

Ali Lohan at photoshoot in Times Square

Lindsay Lohan’s “younger” sister Ali is 15 years old. Or at least that’s what we’ve been told for the last couple years. The problem is that Ali has a certain kind of bone structure that makes her look much older than she is. And not in a sophisticated way, like Elizabeth Taylor or Brooke Shields did when they were younger. There’s something creepier about the way Ali looks old.

Somehow, photographer Jonathan Ressler decided Ali should be included in his “Extraordinary Women” exhibit. This is confusing on a number of levels. First off, Ali is very much not a woman. Secondly, she has done nothing extraordinary. And that’s not an insult – she’s 15, she hasn’t saved the world yet. I mean she’s a Lohan so I don’t expect she’ll ever do much more than spend too much time in rehab, but it’s not fair to hold Ali accountable for what she’s going to do in the future. And last… actually, just her being a Lohan is a good enough reason why she shouldn’t be included as an “extraordinary woman.”

What in the world were the prerequisites? “Must look 45. Must give vague but unavoidable impression of sadness, desperation, and whiskey. Must be able to give camera empty, vacant, chilly stare.” Obviously Dina Lohan’s prints are all over this crime. I have no idea how, but somehow Dina made a photographer go blind.

Thanks to Dlisted for the story idea.

Jessica Simpson stays remarkably classy over weight gain controversy

Jessica Simpson performing at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlotte

Rarely do I defend Jessica Simpson, but the controversy over her weight gain is way out of proportion. And though I never thought I’d use the word “classy” to describe her, that’s exactly what she’s been. Simpson would have been perfectly in line if she’d yelled and screamed and railed at the press for making such a big deal about what I’m guessing is maybe 10 pounds. But instead she kept quiet and just went about her business.

Last night Jessica performed for the first time since the supposed “fat” photos were leaked. While she didn’t address them directly, she talked about staying positive and reminding yourself there’s bigger issues out there.

Jessica Simpson made no mention of her controversial new curves at a concert Thursday night in Virginia, but she thanked fans for standing by her.

Clad in black leather pants, a hip-length black blazer and silver go-go heels, Simpson, 28, hit the stage promptly at 8:01 p.m. and performed a 40-minute set, opening with “These Boots” before introducing the tune, “Still Beautiful.”

“This song is off my new record… and it’s about finding the beauty in life, no matter what happens,” she told the audience at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena, where she performed with Rascal Flatts. Simpson later added, “Always remember that someone out there has it worse than you.”

And prior to singing “Pray Out Loud,” she told the audience, “I feel like in our world, we focus on so many things that are unimportant. And I really just wanted to say this.”

Throughout the show, Simpson — who struggled all night with her ear piece — was upbeat. Before leaving the stage, Simpson told fans, “Stay positive, pray out loud, give it up for my band … I love you guys. Good night!”

[From Us Weekly]

Jessica normally talks about passing gas and her love life during her concert chit chat, so what she said was a step up no matter what. But she certainly could have used last night as an opportunity to respond to the haters, but instead she took the high road. Jessica may be a lot of things – not all of them necessarily good – but she’s always struck me as a fundamentally nice person.

Most of us go through times when we put on some weight, for whatever reason. My body likes to add an unnecessary 7 pounds every winter, apparently thinking I’m part bear. It always goes away early in the spring once I’m out and about more. Jessica may very well be the same.

And while her outfit didn’t help any, I think the biggest issue was the unflattering camera angle while she was performing. No one looks good when shot from below. I’m not saying the camera was solely responsible, but it definitely didn’t help. I don’t know how celebrities manage to deal with so much body criticism, but publicly Jessica has handled it with grace.

Lily Allen still needs to drink to perform

wenn2268583
Lily Allen is drinking again, fighting again, and generally just going back to her old ways. I don’t know what to do with her. I used to like her a lot, I used to think she was really funny and cool. Now I’m not so sure. After the Winehouse-esque drunken fights, the repeated public nudity, and the Britney-esque pink wig… I want to believe in her.

Lily Allen was performing for the first time in a while, and she needed some liquid courage to sing her songs. Interesting sidenote: for her encore, Lily performed a cover of Britney’s “Womanizer”. Britain’s The Sun had details, and an exclusive interview with Lily:

Raising a pint of wine to the crowd, Lily Allen giggles: “I’ve not had a drink for a while but if you expect me to get on stage and be funny, then I’ll need this,” and takes a gulp. The swarm of fans at the O2 Academy in Oxford explode into cheers and screams.

Lily has been off the booze for a while but she feels now is the right time to slip off the wagon. And why not? Tonight is the second of Lily’s warm-up shows to perform tracks from her new album.

She says: “Yep, I am drinking again. Last night I had my first drink. There’s no way I can get on stage without a drink. I think I’m funnier when I’ve had a few. I didn’t find it difficult to stop drinking, I didn’t even think about it. I haven’t really needed a drink but now I’m on tour, it’s fun drinking sometimes. But some things have changed. I’m not drinking any cheap stuff now – only expensive wine will do this time. I’ve gone upmarket.”

From The Sun

Oh, and the fights. Lily Allen’s longest, most protracted battle has been with Perez Hilton. I don’t read Perez, but I’ve read some of the coverage of the spat. Perez sounds like a nasty piece of work who deserves everything Lily dishes out.

…Blunt and honest, she has had public spats with Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

For her second album, Lily wants to be taken seriously. And she is. Her first single, “The Fear”, is ahead of Lady GaGa in the midweek charts and is heading for No1. She says: “All those rows, it’s just me sticking up for myself. With the internet you can fight back. If someone has written something unjust, wrong or has offended me, or offended a friend, then that’s it.”

“The other day Perez Hilton wrote that I was a lazy ar*e and I should give up on my record. Today, my single is No1 in the midweeks and I am on tour, working really, really hard. And his job is sitting at a computer all day. How can he call me lazy?!”

“I am working so hard because this album is all I care about. I’m so happy with how it’s worked out and that’s why I took my time with it. At first I was a bit scared of what people might think. Because of how famous I have become, I feel very judged. But it’s been great so far. I’ve even been in tears about some of the nice things written about this album. Crying like a baby!”

“But I write my music for me and I like it and if other people like it then great.”

From The Sun

The Sun piece is really long. If you like Lily Allen, it’s an interesting read and I would recommend it. She talks a lot more about her new album and her latest musical influences, a new producer, all of that stuff. She does seem to have grown up quite a bit the last few years, though I still expect her to act crazy when it suits her. Even the part of the interview where she talks about Perez isn’t really bad – she’s just defending herself. See? I do like her after all.

Denise Richards can’t use her kids on her reality show anymore

fp_1816612_richards_denise_fp_011809

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen have been fighting an epic war of “Who’s the craziest person,” for the last few years. And the funny thing is – for the most part – they’re both winning. Sheen has been trying to prevent Richards from featuring their daughters on her reality show, “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated,” for fear they’d be exploited. The courts have sided with Denise, and the premise of the show was a young, hot, single mom looking for love.

But Sheen has finally won and E! has given in – now the show will have to take a new – and equally innovative – direction.

Watch for BIG changes on the second season of the DENISE RICHARDS reekality show, “It’s Complicated.”

Thanks to interference from dad-on-patrol CHARLIE SHEEN, two faces will be noticeably absent, their daughters SAM, 4, and LOLA, 3.

After protective dad Charlie threatened exec producer RYAN SEACREST and E! TV with everything from baseball bats to legal action, they finally caved to his insistence that the girls shouldn’t be on-camera and on-set endlessly.

Ryan finally bowed to Charles-In-Charge, and now the show will focus on Denise as a dating single mom.

Ryan promises a hipper story line focusing on Denise’s bosom…er, bosom buddies and her, shopping, bopping and gallivanting to Vegas on girls-gone-wild forays.

[From the National Enquirer]

It still sounds completely unwatchable. Charlie and Denise have so much vitriol for each other that it was always hard to tell who the crazy one was. Clarification: crazier one. But it seems to me it’s probably Denise. Their kids always look so miserable in photos. It was a big deal the one time a photographer caught them smiling. The last thing they need is the pressure of performing on camera. Yeah it’s a reality show, but let’s be real – most of it is staged. Those two little girls need as much privacy and normalcy as they can get. And I really doubt their absence will make the show noticeably worse. Mostly because it was impossibly bad to begin with. Why drag little kids into that mess?
